This is the name given to a district within Hoakalei Resort in West Oahu centered around the 52-acre recreational Wai Kai Lagoon. Its very name is a poetic marriage of Hawaiian meaning: Wai, water and essence of life; and Kai, ocean water that sustains and heals.

Wai Kai at Hoakalei is destined to become an active year-round destination where residents and visitors connect to the water, land, and Hawaiian culture by experiencing first-of-its-kind attractions, signature events, and the natural beauty of the Pacific Ocean

Among the first public amenities will be the nine-acre Wai Kai waterfront recreation and lifestyle venue adjacent to the Lagoon. Currently under construction and slated to open on February 10, 2023, Wai Kai will offer unique, interactive, and engaging experiences, dining, events, music and festivals.

Hoakalei and Surrounding Area

Hoakalei

The Wai Kai recreation and lifestyle venue is located within Hoakalei Resort in Ewa Beach, West Oahu. The award-winning 726-acre master-planned community features four residential neighborhoods and the private Hoakalei Country Club. Other planned amenities include an extensive trail system, access to shoreline activities, future hotel, future residences and more.

In Hawaiian, Hoakalei means “reflection of a lei.” Hawaiian legend tells how Hi‘iaka, the favorite sister of fire goddess Pele, journeyed across the vast Honouliuli Plains of Ewa. Stopping by a tranquil spring, she saw two lehua trees on either side of the spring and made lei out of the blossoms. She then saw herself reflected in the water’s surface, adorned with the garlands of lehua. This spring’s name was Hoakalei.
